GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB)- The FBI is investigating an envelope with a suspicious substance delivered to an office in North Central Florida.

It all started with a call Thursday afternoon about a white grainy substance inside an envelope at Congressman Ted Yoho’s office in Northwest Gainesville.

Gainesville’s Haz-Mat team did go into the congressman’s office to test the substance.

Two people were exposed to the mystery substance but they were not hurt.

Their results later confirmed it wasn’t toxic to humans.

FBI and Gainesville Fire Rescue officials would not confirm whether the substance found was drug-related.

Rep. Yoho was unavailable for an interview and was not in the office during the incident.

On Thursday night he released a statement saying:

“Our entire Gainesville team is safe and we have taken the necessary precautions to ensure that continued safety.”

His staff was evacuated from the office.

Rep. Yoho also confirmed the envelope was found during a normal mail sorting session and had a return address of Hawaii.

A spokesperson for the FBI says while there doesn’t appear to be an ongoing threat, there is still an ongoing investigation just to make sure. WCJB20 ABC
