DANVILLE, VA – A local Veterans Affairs office was evacuated on Wednesday after a suspicious package was found.
According to the Danville Fire Department, they were called to 705 Piney Forest Road on Wednesday just after 3:00 p.m.
That address is the Danville Community Based Outpatient Clinic, a local Veterans Affairs office, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
All occupants were evacuated and medically evaluated. No injuries were reported.
The package was turned over the Virginia State Police to be analyzed.
The facility was deemed safe by HazMat crews and occupants were able to return to the building.
Danville Fire was assisted by Danville Police, State Police, Virginia Department of Emergency Management and the Danville Life Saving Crew.
The Salem VA Medical Center released a statement to WFXR News about the incident.
“A suspicious package was delivered Wednesday afternoon. Local authorities were contacted including the Danville HazMat team as a precaution. The clinic was evacuated as a safeguard. Five employees were evaluated and treated on site. Case has been turned over to Virginia State Police for further investigation. We anticipate full operations tomorrow for Veterans who have appointments with primary care and mental health providers. No veterans were exposed to the contents of the package,” Brett Robbins, Salem VA Medical Center public affairs officer, said.
